Why it works

How Mental Stint works

Most people were never taught how to study. There is a science of it, and Mental Stint is built on it.

  1. Find out where you are

People don't know what they know. A short test beats a guess.

In Mental Stint: Ten-second checks place you. Nobody asks you to rate your level.

  2. Do the 20% that matters first

Every subject has a small core that does most of the work.

In Mental Stint: The plan maps the subject and the first units are that core.

  3. Test yourself, don't reread

Recalling something makes it stick; rereading only makes it familiar.

In Mental Stint: Every session is recall. You answer before you see.

  4. Space it out

Memory holds longest when you return just as you're about to forget.

In Mental Stint: The scheduler brings each card back at the moment that does the most.

  5. Drill the weakest point, then adjust

Progress comes from working on what you can't do yet, and changing the plan when the numbers say so.

In Mental Stint: 'How to improve' reads your record; the dates move when you do.

You do the session. Mental Stint does the how.
